Since childhood I was fascinated by crowns, as we all are being told princess stories. So, I just wanted to have my own crown. I applied for Miss India while I was in class 12th, got shortlisted and was called to Mumbai for level 2, but by that time board exams dates were out so everything got vanished from my mind and I got busy in exams and then college, then job.

After that I got married and had my baby. Suddenly, one day while surfing net I don’t know how there was a adventure for Mrs India world. Unconsciously, I just applied and got shortlisted among thousands of applications and was called for the auditions. It instantly grabbed headlines for promising its users a whiff of heady fragrance, aristocracy and signature style. A heartfelt companion for the special occasions, it makes you announce your arrival in style along with leaving a lasting impression. The flawless blend of fragrance and ornamentation that draws praiseworthy exclamations on first glimpse is akin to perfection, the definition for which lies at Asia’ biggest Super Exotic Car Showroom. And the cherry on the cake, being the affordable price of rupees 1499/- quickly makes a place for itself in the hearts of fashion lovers. Indulge yourself in a never like before extravagant affair that will surely leave you speechless and craving for more.

What inspired you to collect 563 brands of miniature perfume to bag a “Certificate of Excellence” by the Golden Book of World Records?
My childhood perennial attachment for scented bottles! That is what I accord it to.Revisiting the past timeline makes me cherish the good olden days when perfumes occupied the “top drawer” fascination of my daily chores. To be more precise, when my parents were on their honeymoon in Switzerland! My mom bought small bottles of perfumes which were later gifted to me and thus began my interest in collecting miniature perfumes. This was a very exceptional moment, extremely close to my heart for it chalked out the course of my career.Truly want to thank them!Of course, the quest to do something different from my contemporaries was always on the wish list and soon the mental soft spot for perfumes grew into a full- fledged hobby of dwelling deep into the peculiarities of various renowned brands together with making them a part of my collection.A staunch diversion from the run of the mill praxis proceedings, the strong emotional connect with perfumes saw me stack the exemplary bottled specimens with utmost care in a colossal glass cabinet, that calls for a grand recital of “passion is the basis of achieving everything you once dreamt of”.Receiving the honorable “Certificate of Excellence” by the Golden Book of World Records was a complete validation which conveyed that this was a meritorious start with much more to follow.

As the Chief Operating Officer (COO), what’s your key role?
I head the Merchandise section at Big Boy Toyz. As the Chief Operating Officer, my key role is to ensure that my team and I successfully market the portfolio that we have come out with like stationery and lifestyle products. The responsibilities entail that we work hard, take bold and tough decisions without compromising on our values and solve the difficult business and organizational issues as a team.

What is the idea behind Merchandise section at Big Boy Toyz (BBT)?
As the preferred and choicest super exotic car destination, Big Boy Toyz aims to offer extra and something more with the newly launched Merchandise Section.Coming up with a full-blown contributory for furthering the indomitable streak and popularity which BBT commands, was always there on my mind and choosing an item from the alluringcategory surely adds to your attractive takeaway at the end of the day when you drive off with the swanky four wheeled statementfrom our showroom.Specifically pinpointing to the big eponym, the “Big Boy Toyz Gold Edition Perfume”, which has redefined the very essence of luxury & gratification together with qualifying as a wholehearted satiating exemplification for our ever-expansive brand following. So that is a definite icing on the cake!

Where do you want to see yourself in the next 5 years?

I may be the COO of the Merchandise Section but I want to make it clear that both my husband, MrJatin Ahuja and I work as a team and intend to remain that way. Along with our responsible and dependable staff, we want to expand, innovate and offer our best services to the people in the coming years. It is not only about competition but a process of constant evolving and upgradation that keeps us on our toes and Market ourselves better.

What type of a lifestyle do you enjoy?
I strive to achieve a lifestyle with a perfect work life balance wherein I can give an optimum contribution to my Merchandise Section and not feel guilty of neglecting the family members andhousehold affairs. My little daughter Zaara commands most of my attention and time which I enjoy to the hilt.It is my responsibility to bring her up with the right values and see her taking over the reigns of the organization.

What inspired you to do what you are doing today?
There are a couple of things that I would love to highlight here -Firstly, it was my dream to be a complete woman. A woman with a home and a woman with a flourishing career! The Merchandise Section of Big Boy Toyz is like my baby. My passion of collecting perfumes soon got translated into a business venture and I realized that I could give the ladies and the men folk a unique individualistic style, something that stands apart, the Big Boy Toyz Gold Edition Perfume.

    Not only this!

We have other products too in our attractive listing such as the BBT Carbon Fiber Pen, Puzzle, Stickers and the newly added Signature playing cards, all of which add to our diverse quotient.

I always had a desire to put my creative instincts to good use and believe me this is like a meditation that has aided my spiritual growth.

What message do you have for budding entrepreneurs?

Foremost, be committed to the people you want to serve and the people who are the backbone to your organisation. Be smart and different in your organizational skills, inspire & lead your team and above all have a sense of humor in the face of challenges. Work hard but take out time for yourself.

  • HOW DIRECT SELLING IS GOING TO HELP IN REVIVING THE INDIAN ECONOMY

HOW DIRECT SELLING IS GOING TO HELP IN REVIVING THE INDIAN ECONOMY

By Aseem Sood, Managing Director – Proveda Marketing India Pvt. Ltd.

Direct selling has been one of the oldest and the most traditional forms of selling platform globally. Today, it is a successful industry operating in over 80% of countries worldwide with a market size of $200 billion. The World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA) states that approximately 117 million people around the world are involved in the industry, out of which a staggering 74% are women. At present, India has 5.1 million people associated with direct selling of which 60% of them are women. We are seeing growth in terms of direct sellers in India, 2016-17 there were 5.1 million direct sellers that rose to 5.7 million in 2018-19. This is figures indicates that almost 800 people join the industry every day. This business model is one of the major contributors to the economic development of most of the developed countries majorly in India. In more than 20 years+ of its existence in India, the Direct Selling industry has been able to make a meaningful contribution to society. Direct Selling’s key factor ‘low investments and high returns’ – makes it a key driver of balanced growth in the country. It is estimated that by 2025, the direct selling industry in India will be worth INR 645 billion.

WHY DIRECT SELLING IS GAINING POPULARITY.

    • Upsurge in income level: Employed as well as non-employed people are opting for direct selling business as it is a good source to make decent income.
    • You own the business: Most of the people like to be the owner of their own business and above that the USP of direct selling – ‘low investment and low risk’ makes it more popular and attracts a huge number.
    • Extra Savings: This platform enables members to earn fixed plus variable incomes by which they can save more money for themselves. This helps in improving their financial conditions.
    • Connect Socially: This platform gives opportunities to be well connected with the society as it is focused on making more and more networks for the business which at last results in the development of society.

    DIRECT SELLING IN INDIA

The direct selling concept is considered to have been kick-started in India in the late 1980s. Post-liberalisation, the industry witnessed major growth with many global players entering the Indian market. Today, the direct selling market in India is estimated to be around INR16 billion. Industry investors has seen how this platform created a positive impact on several other social and economic parameters:

1). An added income source: Direct selling is one platform that offers opportunities for additional income to a significant number of people and promotes micro-entrepreneurship. At present, over 5 million direct sellers are estimated to be connected with the industry. Besides, direct selling also imparts handy skills in sales and management, which can be used in general life routine, as well.

2). Promoting women empowerment: Women have gained significantly from the direct selling business as it offers self-employment opportunities. Around 2.1 million women have now become a successful entrepreneur in the direct selling industry.

3). Growth of the SME sector: Many direct selling companies bank on SMEs for manufacturing their products. In many cases, the direct selling companies help the SMEs with the manufacturing know-how, technology and processes to enable them to manufacture world-class products. Some of these companies also provide the right equipment and machines to the SMEs for production. Driven by these initiatives, many SMEs have now developed capabilities to cater to the needs of other MNCs and have commenced supplying to them, and thus promoting India as a manufacturing destination.

4). Generating employment: Besides offering an additional source of income to direct sellers, the industry also generates employment. The majority of the direct selling companies outsource the production, packaging and distribution of their products, which creates direct employment across the value chain. Every year 8 million newly graduates are looking for jobs but only 10% will get the job and many of them are underpaid. Direct Selling allows them to enhance their skills and develop a mindset of an entrepreneur.

5). Initiates CSR acts: In terms of serving the society, direct selling companies have been at the forefront. Many of the companies involved in direct selling actively contribute towards social activities like providing food, clothes, education and sanitation to the needy.

6). Contribution to the government treasury: The operating model for direct selling generates tax contributions to the government across its value chain. This comprises of direct and indirect tax contributions through corporate income taxes, import duties and VAT. These has created a significant social and economic impact in India. As mentioned earlier, that the industry is likely to become a worth of INR645 billion by 2025, driven by growth in consumer markets.

In summation, the industry has been helping the Indian economy since its inception, but last year, the industry grew manifolds. Other initiatives like ‘Vocal for Local’ and Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ has encouraged people to purchase locally made products this has given a boost to the industry as well and motivated upcoming entrepreneurs to succeed. Players like Proveda India has seen a great number of people joining and benefiting from the business. Direct selling has indeed emerged as a feasible option for those who seek flexibility and work-life balance while still enjoying the financial freedom the sector offers.
